McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc. (MHI) in conjunction with Houston Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in the City of Houston, celebrated completion and dedication of a home to the Contreras family in the WoodGlen Community

MHI employees volunteered many hours to work on the Houston Habitat Home beginning early this year. Their efforts combined with the builder's vendor partners helped to ensure a timely completion of the home

Houston Habitat homes are not free. Qualified low-income partner families purchase homes at zero-interest on a 30-year mortgage after they have invested a minimum of 300 hours sweat equity in the building of others' as well as their own.

Keys to the home were presented to the new homeowners at a special dedication ceremony. Family members, MHI employees, vendor partners, and Houston Habitat staff enjoyed the festive luncheon celebration.

MHI and Gallery Furniture awarded the family a $1,000 gift certificate to Gallery Furniture at the dedication ceremony. The event was designed to introduce the family to their new home and meet the individuals who worked on their home.

"We're very proud to be able to give back to the community with Houston Habitat," according to Edmond McGuyer, Plantation Homes Project Manager. "This experience has been challenging yet very rewarding." McGuyer was instrumental in the coordination of MHI employees and materials in the construction of the home.

This home was designed with the latest in concrete technology to increase energy efficiency and provide lower utility bills for future residents.

MHI has been involved with Habitat for Humanity in previous years and will continue work to improve the surrounding community.
